Chief Human Resources Officer at National Renewable Energy Laboratory

Tina Herrera guides NREL's strategy for recruiting, developing, and retaining the workforce that successfully executes the lab's mission and vision.

Herrera’s extensive career in the national laboratory system began at Los Alamos National Laboratory in 1998. She spent the past 13 years at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) in progressively responsible leadership positions. Most recently, Herrera served as human resources strategic partner for the Director’s Office, Technology Deployment Office, Office of General Counsel, and External Affairs Office at PNNL. Herrera has also served Battelle on several successful laboratory operating contract rebid and transition teams.

She was also PNNL diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) manager, where she led labwide DEI educational initiatives, redesigned employee resource groups and equal employment opportunity job groups, created the first labwide Diversity Council, and partnered with PNNL's executive leaders to raise DEI awareness in the community.

Herrera holds a bachelor's degree in human resources management from New Mexico State University and a master’s degree in organizational development from Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, California.
