Dean Chang is the Chief Innovation Officer at the University of Maryland, a position held since May 2007, where responsibilities include coordinating the innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic development ecosystem, managing a team of over 75, and serving as Senior Advisor to the Provost for Innovation. In addition to this role, Dean Chang has served as Faculty Advisor for the Student Initiated Courses program since January 2017 and was the founding Associate Vice President for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, establishing the Academy for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, which has received top rankings for entrepreneurship education. Previous experience includes leadership roles at the National Science Foundation as Hub Lead Principal Investigator, at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as Lead Instructor for the HHS Ignite Accelerator, and extensive tenure at Immersion Corporation where positions included Vice President of Gaming Business and Chief Technology Officer. Dean Chang holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a PhD in Mechanical Engineering/Robotics from Stanford University, and an MBA from The Wharton School.
