Douglas Kowalewski currently serves as the Program Director for Partnerships and Innovation in Geosciences at the National Science Foundation (NSF) since August 2021, following a tenure as Associate Professor and Chair at Worcester State University from August 2012 to August 2021. With a focus on the interactions between climate change and landform response, Douglas studies the stability of glacial and periglacial features, including permafrost and glaciers. Prior to this, Douglas held the position of Program Director for Antarctic Earth Sciences at NSF from May 2017 to September 2019 and worked as a Senior Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Massachusetts Amherst from 2009 to 2012, where research centered on paleoclimate interpretations in Antarctica. Earlier career experience includes a role as a Project Geologist at Tetra Tech from September 1999 to February 2003, managing remediation projects. Douglas holds a PhD in Earth Sciences from Boston University and a BS in Geology/Earth Science from Virginia Tech.
