Basanta Kumar Samala is a seasoned researcher with extensive experience in climate change and meteorology. At the University of Galway since November 2016, Basanta is involved in climate change research focused on Ireland. Prior to this role, from December 2011 to October 2016, Basanta served as Chief Scientific Officer at Skymet in Noida, specializing in numerical weather modeling for forecasts ranging from short-term to seasonal, particularly for power companies. Basanta's earlier positions include Project Leader at C-DAC in Pune, Research Associate at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Senior Research Fellow at INCOIS in Hyderabad, and Scientific Assistant at RRL in Bhubaneswar. Basanta holds a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences from Savitribai Phule Pune University, a Post Graduate degree in Business Administration from SCDL, and a Master's degree in Oceanography from Berhampur University.
