Mike Burkart

Mike Burkart is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at UC San Diego, where responsibilities include advancing research in biological chemistry and natural products since 2002. As a co-founder of Aspera Biomedicines and Algenesis Materials, both established in 2021 and 2016 respectively, contributions to the field extend beyond academia. Prior to current roles, Mike Burkart served as an NIH Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard Medical School from 1999 to 2002. Educational credentials include a PhD in Chemistry from Scripps Research (1994-1999) and a BA in Chemistry from Rice University (1990-1994).
