Mirum Product Engineer at Natural Fiber Welding

Rob Cairncross has been working in the engineering industry since 1989. Rob began their career at Caterpillar Inc. as a Nonmetallic Support Engineer, providing design consultation, material, process, and supplier development/selection for TTT, Transmission, and Solar Turbines non-metallic components/projects. Rob then moved up to become an Engineer Supervisor and Vehicle Test/Validation Engineer, managing a $3.5M budget, 11+ engineers, and 22+ track-type-tractors (TTT) at Caterpillar proving ground and in field. In this role, they were also responsible for NPI process validation testing, reliability demonstration, test coordination, problem resolution, field follow, and interaction with end-use customers (VOC).

Rob then moved up to become a Kit Engineering Supervisor, identifying and successfully addressing 6+ year backlog of missing engine gasket kits. Rob secured financial support, recruited resources, and re-organized section with dedicated internal team to eliminate backlog completely. Rob then became a 6 Sigma Blackbelt, charged with overseeing $6.5M annual value prop, as a DMAIC/DMEDI/CPS trained and certified professional.

Most recently, Rob has been working as a Mirum Product Engineer at Natural Fiber Welding since 2019. In this role, they are responsible for product development of an all-natural, petroleum & toxic chemical free, leather alternative material.

Rob Cairncross received a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Delaware in 1985, and a Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines in 1989. Rob also obtained a Certified 6 Sigma Blackbelt from Caterpillar Inc. in December 2008.
