Wendy Lawson has a comprehensive work history with a strong focus on finance and accounting. Wendy began their career in 1994 as an Accountant at the Overseas Development Council, where they performed a range of accounting functions and supervised office staff. Wendy then moved on to the role of Senior Staff Accountant at American University, where they managed accounting policies and procedures for various grants and contracts.
In 1998, Wendy joined the Academy for Educational Development as an Accounting Compliance Manager, where they administered the general ledger and provided technical guidance on foreign banking matters. Wendy later took on the role of Billing Manager, overseeing contracts with USAID and other government agencies.
From 2001 to 2003, Wendy served as the Finance Manager for AED, where they prepared budgets and financial reports for the CHANGE project and tracked expenses by project. Following this, they worked at SDi, LLC as an Account Manager, managing a sales territory, generating sales leads, and completing sales reports.
In 2008, Wendy joined the Metropolitan Opera as a Senior Accountant, preparing tax returns and developing new schedules to extract specialized information from the accounting system. Wendy then moved on to Planned Parenthood Federation of America as an Assistant Controller, where they participated in year-end audits, oversaw procurement and accounts payable operations, and served as a backup to the payroll manager.
Most recently, Wendy has been working at the Natural Resources Defense Council as an Assistant Controller, preparing tax returns, directing audit preparations, and coordinating reports for auditors.
Throughout their career, Wendy has demonstrated strong financial leadership and attention to detail, resulting in improved efficiency and reduced errors.
Wendy Lawson graduated from Muhlenberg College in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting & Business Management. Prior to attending college, they attended Red Bank Catholic HS from 1984 to 1988. In terms of additional certifications, they obtained the Not-for-Profit Certificate II from AICPA in January 2021 and the Not-for-Profit Certificate I from AICPA in January 2018.
