Bruce Young

Chief Scientist at NatureServe

Bruce Young has had a diverse work experience in the field of zoology and conservation. Bruce started their career in 1993 as the Co-Director of the La Selva Biological Station at the Organization for Tropical Studies. In 1998, they joined The Nature Conservancy as a Latin American Zoologist. Bruce then moved to NatureServe in 2000, where they initially served as an International Zoologist until 2007. From 2008 to 2018, Bruce held the position of Director, Species Science at NatureServe. Their most recent role at NatureServe is Chief Zoologist and Senior Conservation Scientist, which they have held since July 2018.

Bruce Young received their Bachelor's degree in Biology from Cornell University from 1981 to 1985. Following this, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Zoology at the University of Washington, completing this program from 1987 to 1993. In 1988, they took a Graduate 8-week course in Tropical Biology 88-3 at the Organization for Tropical Studies.
