The Field Supervisor provides support to the Navarro projects by performing activities and tasks in support of characterization, environmental restoration, and D&D of hazardous and radioactive waste sites located at the Nevada National Security Site.

General Responsibilities and Knowledge Skills:

  • Under little to no supervision, has the skill and ability to perform complex professional construction and demolition type activities, and interface/coordinate with government oversight, site maintenance and operations, and Navarro management.
  • Supervises and coordinates activities of workers and subcontractors engaged in construction, installation, modification, repair, and demolition activities.
  • Performs pre-job-briefings, emphasizes stop work authority, enforces procedure compliance and nuclear professionalism, and participates in post-job-briefs.
  • Ensures equipment, material, supplies, and consumables are available to the work force to safety conduct field operations.
  • Oversees work activity to ensure safety compliance of subcontractors and workers.
  • Communicates with client representative of progression.
  • Coordinates QA/QC Supervision and hold points.
  • Coordinates with supporting departments, such as Safety, Radiation Protection, Waste Operations, and Characterization personnel.
  • Supports work control with work package development, execution, and closure.
  • Assigns workers to such tasks as cutting material to size, building concrete forms, erecting wooden framework, and perform hydro-testing as per discipline and stage of project.
  • Acts as a liaison between field crews, subcontractors, vendors, site operations, and emergency response to ensure foreseeable hazard are identified, communicated and mitigated to any potentially exposed worker.
  • Inspect work to ensure conformance with specifications defined in the job package.
  • Performs other duties such as toolbox safety meetings, Job Safety Analysis, task specific “Competent Person”, and serve as a first responder pending training/experience credentials.
  • Level of language skills, mathematical skills, communication skills, reasoning ability and computer skills necessary to perform essential function.
  • Ensures documents are clear, concise, and conform to regulatory and technical requirements.
  • Must be able to contribute to a positive work environment and participate in a team atmosphere.
  • Ability to document and record work activities as appropriate.
  • Provides guidance to Company staff on developing procedures and processes to ensure safety, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors corrective measures to minimize or eliminate non-compliance.
  • Required to train and mentor junior staff.
  • Experience in procedural compliance on DOE sites.
  • Ability to independently organize work to meet established objectives.
  • Familiarity with NNSS operations and any special training such as health and safety and Radiological Protection would be desirable.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and complete records.

Specific Responsibilities and Knowledge/Skills:

  • Daily on-site presence during fieldwork execution activities.
  • Performs Command and Control functions of specific areas of assignment, which includes coordinating work activities, personnel briefings, personnel accountability, and site function coordination as the single point of contact.
  • Planning and supervising preventative, corrective maintenance activities and decontamination and demolition activities.
  • Demonstrating personal accountability for the safe performance of work.
  • Directing and controlling work in a manner consistent within the current boundaries of the Work Authorization, ensuring a balance of craft skills, work site supervision, and documentation and materials are in place before starting work and throughout the activity.
  • Ensuring work does not commence until personnel involved with the fieldwork understand the work scope, hazards and hazard controls, hold points, and their roles and responsibilities.
  • Assuring status of operations is consistent with waste acceptance criteria (radiological waste disposal site requirements) and environmental compliance is maintained and communicated to operations personnel.
  • Completing work activity documentation accurately and thoroughly, ensuring appropriate review, approvals, and/or authorizations are obtained.
  • Building and maintaining fieldwork teams, recognizing achievements, and correcting behaviors detrimental to the safe conduct of work and/or to the team.
  • Acting as an integral part of communications systems, providing an upward and downward link for the timely transfer of information in regard to safety and compliance issues as well as production and schedule status.
  • Implementing the company policy and contractual commitments applicable to bargaining unit personnel and subcontractors.
  • Interfacing with Operations and Functional Management, Operations personnel, and support organizations daily.
