Tom Plantenberg has a diverse work experience spanning over several decades. Tom served as the Wisconsin State President and Milwaukee Chapter President at the Navy League of the United States, where they focused on rebuilding membership. Tom was also the Executive Director of the World Affairs Seminar at the Wisconsin World Affairs Council, Inc., where they aimed to develop future world leaders among high school students.

Later, they obtained a Master of Science degree in Public Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, where they studied from 1978 to 1987.
