Marieke Brugman serves as a Senior Advisor and Deputy Secretary General at the Netherlands National Commission for UNESCO since February 2011, providing policy and strategic advice in education and cultural heritage. Brugman is also the National Coordinator for the UNESCO Associated Schools Project Network, fostering international understanding through a global network of educational institutions. Additional roles include participation as a member of the evaluative body for Intangible Heritage in the Netherlands, an advisory body for the UNESCO Chair on Adult Education, and a secretarial position at Voorburgse Rugby Club. Brugman owns Penelope, a business specializing in handmade children's clothing. Past experience includes advisory roles at Nuffic and The Hague University of Applied Sciences, as well as project leadership at Leiden University. Brugman holds a Master's degree in Greek and Latin language and culture from Leiden University and has pursued various professional development courses.
