Antony (Tony) Butterfield is a highly experienced software engineer and entrepreneur, currently serving as a Senior Software Engineer at Neo4j since May 2021, specializing in distributed systems. As the Founder and CTO of 1060 Research, Tony played a pivotal role in the invention of micro-services and resource-oriented computing, successfully commercializing it as NetKernel while engaging in various startup roles, including full-stack development and business development. Previous positions include consulting at Hewlett Packard Labs on micro-kernel architecture, directing projects at Component Group, and significant contributions to architecture and development at Thames Water and JP Morgan. With a strong foundation in object-oriented programming and early Java adoption from experiences at Bell Labs, Tony also holds a BSc in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Warwick.
