Amrit Koirala

Consultant Interventional Radiologist at Nepal Cancer Hospital and Research Center

Dr. Koirala acquired his medical degree MBBS from Kathmandu Medical College (Gold Medalist) and residency training from University of Santo Tomas Hospital, Manila, Philippines. He completed his Fellowship training in Body Interventional Radiology (FBIR) at the Siriraj Hospital under Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand. He is currently the General Secretary of Nepalese Society of Vascular and Interventional Radiology. He has additional trainings as International Visiting Scholar at Asan Medical Center in Seoul, Korea, San-Yat Sen Cancer Institute, Yunan Cancer Center in China.

He has participated and delivered numerous presentations in various national and international oncology/interventional radiology conferences. He also serves as the secretary general for the Nepalese Society of Vascular and Interventional Radiology.

He is the program director of the Interventional Oncology Unit at Nepal Cancer Hospital and Research Center and worked in the past as Lecturer/Interventional Radiologist at Patan Academy of Health Sciences. He has been instrumental in promoting and establishing interventional oncology as a fourth pillar in cancer care in Nepal. He is credited for introducing Microwave Ablation and starting Interventional Oncology outpatient clinic for the first time in Nepal. He has more than 5yrs experience in oncologic imaging and interventional radiology/oncology.

He has many awards in his name. To name few are The Chairman Dr. Pushkar N. Pant Gold Medal for standing 1st amongst final year medical students in the final MBBS Examination of Kathmandu University; Prof. Loke Bikram Thapa Gold Medal for Surgery for highest marks in surgery in final MBBS exam; Prof. Dr. Damber B. Karki Gold Medal for Medicine for highest marks in Medicine in final MBBS exam; Prof. Dr. June Thapa Gold Medal for Gynaecology/Obstetrics for highest marks in Obs/Gyn in final MBBS exam.
