Alex Glennie has a diverse work experience that spans various roles and industries. They started their career as a Services Team Assistant at AccountAbility in 2006. They then moved to IPPR, where they worked as a Research Fellow for six years, developing skills in qualitative research, project management, and public speaking. During this time, they presented research at conferences, managed the roll-out of a migration impact survey, and co-authored a study on globalization.
In 2012, Glennie joined the Institute for Strategic Dialogue as a Programme Manager, gaining experience in team and project management. They also managed the European Policy Planners' Network on Countering Polarisation and Radicalisation and developed fund proposals for innovative work in this field.
Glennie returned to IPPR in 2013 as a Senior Research Fellow, leading a program on UK public attitudes towards European free movement. They became a regular commentator on news and print media outlets and spoke at public events on questions relating to identity, belonging, and citizenship.
In 2017, Glennie started their own coaching business, Alex Glennie Coaching, working as a Leadership Coach accredited by the International Coaching Foundation. They have accumulated hundreds of hours of coaching experience with individuals and teams.
In 2018, Glennie co-founded Odyssey Stories, a project that creatively shares true stories of identity and belonging in transport locations in the UK. They secured startup funding from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation and ran their first project in Oval tube station in South London.
In 2020, Glennie joined Nesta as a Strategy Manager, involved in a major review of the organization's strategy and focusing on organizational culture and ways of working. They then transitioned to the role of Senior Policy Manager at Nesta's Innovation Growth Lab, building relationships with innovation policymakers and supporting them in developing experimental and innovative approaches to policy design.
Recently, Glennie has taken on the role of Head of Policy Engagement and Learning at Nesta. Additionally, they have become an Affiliate at the University of Glasgow Adam Smith Business School starting in 2023.
Alex Glennie completed a Coaching Foundation Course at The Coaching School from 2016 to 2017. Subsequently, from 2001 to 2004, they pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in International History at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). In 2004 to 2005, Alex pursued a Master of Arts degree in International Studies and Diplomacy at SOAS University of London. They also attained an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) certification from the International Coaching Federation in October 2020. More recently, in 2021 and 2022, Alex completed the Executive Coaching Programme at The Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust.
