Peter Welcher

Architect and Tech Advisor to VP Ops at NetCraftsmen

Peter Welcher has over 40 years of work experience. Peter started their career as an Assistant Professor at Baruch College in 1978. From 1979 to 1993, they worked as a Full Professor at the U.S. Naval Academy, where they achieved tenure and led the computerization efforts. During their time at the Naval Academy, they also wrote a book and developed a Lotus-compatible spreadsheet.

In 1993, Welcher joined Mentor Technologies/Chesapeake Computer Consultants as a Consultant-Instructor and later became a Senior Instructor/Consultant. Peter taught and consulted on various subjects, including writing the CLI for Cisco IOS. Peter worked at Mentor Technologies/Chesapeake Computer Consultants until 2001.

From 2001 to 2014, Welcher worked at NetCraftsmen in various roles, including Senior Consultant, Principal Consultant, and Infrastructure Practice Lead and Network Architect. In 2014, they became the Architect and Tech Advisor to the VP of Operations and continued in this role until the present.

In 2010, Welcher also worked at Firefly Communications as an Instructor while consulting with Chesapeake NetCraftsmen.

Throughout their career, Welcher has gained extensive experience in architecture, technology advisory, network design, and consulting.

Peter Welcher received their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Mathematics from Wesleyan University, where they studied from 1970 to 1974. Following that, they pursued a PhD in Math at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from 1974 to 1978.

In addition to their formal education, Peter Welcher has obtained several certifications from Cisco. These include the Cisco Champion titles for the years 2021, 2022, and 2023, which were granted by Cisco in January of each respective year.
