Jim McDonnell is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in national security and risk management. Currently serving as Senior Director of Mission Development at Nevada National Security Sites, McDonnell previously held the position of Senior Advisor at the National Nuclear Security Administration. Notably, as the first Assistant Secretary for Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, appointed by President Trump, McDonnell played a key role in implementing the Countering WMD Act of 2018. Additional expertise stems from leadership roles in various organizations, including President of McDonnell Consulting Group and CEO of I'm Safe Apps, as well as holding significant positions at firms such as TAS-Corp and USEC. McDonnell's educational background includes a Master of Arts in American Studies from Georgetown University and a Bachelor of Science from Excelsior University.

The Nevada National Security Sites help ensure the security of the United States and its allies by: supporting the stewardship of the nation’s nuclear deterrent; providing nuclear and radiological emergency response capabilities and training; contributing to key nonproliferation and arms control initiatives; executing national-level experiments in support of the National Laboratories; working with national security customers and other federal agencies on important national security activities; and providing long-term environmental stewardship of the NNSS’s Cold War legacy.
