Jason Chiasson

Chief Open Pit Engineer at New Gold

Jason Chiasson has extensive experience in the mining industry, with a focus on engineering and operations. Jason most recently worked as a Senior Mine Engineer Specialist at New Gold Inc., starting in July 2023. Prior to that, they served as an Assistant Manager - Mining Operations at Tata Steel Minerals Canada from September 2022 to May 2023. Jason also held the position of Senior Mining Engineer at Baffinland from May 2020 to August 2022.

Before these roles, Jason worked as a Specialist in Mining Engineering at ArcelorMittal Côte-Nord (AMEM et AMIC) from September 2014 to April 2020. Jason also gained experience as a Senior Mining Engineer at Tata Steel Minerals Canada from September 2013 to August 2014.

Earlier in their career, Jason worked at IAMGOLD Corporation as a Senior Project Engineer, Mine Operations from September 2011 to August 2013. During their time there, they served as a Drill General Foreman, handling various projects for Mine Operations.

Jason also worked at Agnico-Eagle on the Meadowbank Project as a Drill & Blast Supervisor from January 2011 to August 2011 and as a Senior Mining Engineer from January 2009 to December 2010. Jason was responsible for engineering department supervision, drill and blast design, and short range planning.

Prior to these positions, Jason gained experience at Blue Note Caribou Mines as a Senior Mining Engineer, where they focused on rock mechanics and mine ventilation. Unfortunately, the mine shut down after six months due to low metal prices.

Early in their career, Jason worked at NVI Mining, Myra Falls Operations as a Rock Mechanics Engineer. Jason started in drill and blast for long hole, then moved to short range planning, senior planning, and finally took on rock mechanics. Jason faced challenges such as different mining methods and poor ground conditions due to mining in areas that had been previously mined.

Overall, Jason Chiasson has a strong background in mine engineering, operations, and rock mechanics, with experience in various roles and companies within the mining industry.

Jason Chiasson earned a Bachelor's degree in Mining from the Technical University of Nova Scotia (TUNS) from 1994 to 1997.
