Emma Bates has extensive experience in healthcare communication and public involvement, currently serving as a Programme Officer for Communication, Engagement & Events at the New Hospital Programme since December 2023. Prior to this role, Emma held multiple positions at NHS England, including Patient and Public Involvement Manager and Project Coordinator in various capacities related to mental health and life sciences. Emma also works as a Patient Associate with the NHS Leadership Academy and previously contributed to The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust as a Research and Innovation Data Coordinator. Emma's earlier experience includes managing NHS contracts at Specsavers and Scrivens Opticians and Hearing Care, where key stakeholder relationships were developed to enhance community services.

The New Hospital Programme is the biggest hospital building programme in a generation. Digital technology will change the way healthcare is delivered in these facilities. Smart technology will reduce basic and repetitive tasks and free up time for patient care. Our mission is to help NHS Trusts to provide high-quality, sustainable care for patients, deliver intelligent hospitals, develop national capability, and build better, build faster and build a sustainable legacy. Rather than treating each project as a standalone scheme, we will capture opportunities to standardise design and leverage scale to maximise effectiveness and efficiency. The New Hospital Programme is transformational and will set new standards for the commissioning of future social infrastructure.
