Gayer, Mitchell E

Mitchell E. Gayer is the current Executive Director of Environmental Health and Safety at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Gayer, has over 25 years of experience in environmental and occupational health, with a focus on tuberculosis and cancer research.

Gayer began their career in public health as a sanitarian for the New York City Department of Health's Bureau of Field Services. Gayer, then worked as a biological safety officer and industrial hygienist for Albert Einstein College of Medicine before moving to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in 1991. In 1993, they joined the New York City Department of Health's Bureau of Tuberculosis Control as a research scientist.

In 1994, Gayer left the city health department to join Rutgers University's Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute (EOHSI) as associate director of administration. Gayer, remained at EOHSI until 2015, when they were appointed deputy director of Rutgers University's Global Tuberculosis Institute (GTBI). Gayer, held that position for one year before joining NJIT in 2016.
