Selamawit T. Ghebremicael

Selamawit T. Ghebremicael has a diverse range of work experience in the field of GIS and remote sensing. Selamawit T. is currently employed as a Senior Geospatial Research Associate at New Light Technologies since May 2021. Previously, they worked as a GIS and Database Manager and Assistant Administrator at Alpha Exploration Eritrea Ltd. from February 2018 to August 2019.

From October 2003 to July 2019, Selamawit worked as a GIS and Remote Sensing Specialist and Researcher in the Sustainable Land Management Program Eritrea, a collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture, Eritrea and the Center for Development and Environment (CDE) of University of Bern, Switzerland. In this role, they gained hands-on experience in GIS and Remote Sensing Projects, hydro meteorological data management, agriculture research, and natural resources management.

In addition, Selamawit has worked as a GIS and Remote Sensing Trainer/Tutor in various consulting projects involving governmental organizations, NGOs, private sectors, training centers, and higher education institutions, starting from February 2002 until July 2019.

Selamawit T. also served as a GIS and Remote Sensing College Instructor at Adikeih College of Arts and Social Studies and Institute of Religious Studies (IRS) from January 2014 to September 2018.

Furthermore, Selamawit worked as a Senior GIS Specialist (part-time) at the Asmara Heritage Project from April 2015 to June 2016.

Selamawit T.'sexperience also includes working as a GIS and Database Manager at Sahar Minerals Eritrea Ltd. from April 2010 to December 2013.

Selamawit's early career involved working as a Lecturer at the University of Asmara from September 2003 to September 2006 and as a Land Resources and Crop Production Expert at the Ministry of Agriculture from May 1998 to January 2001.

Selamawit T. Ghebremicael has a Bachelor's Degree in Soil and Water Conservation from the University of Asmara (College of Agriculture). Selamawit T. also holds a Master's Degree in Appleid Environmental Sciences, specializing in GIS and Remote Sensing, from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

In terms of additional certifications, Selamawit has completed various courses and programs. Selamawit T. obtained a Tableau for Data Visualizations certification from Simplilearn in April 2021, a Data Science with R Programming certification from Simplilearn in March 2021, a Hyperspectral Remote Sensing for Land and Coastal Systems certification from NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration in February 2021, an ESRI ArcGIS Desktop Professional certification from Esri in January 2021, an Introduction to NASA's "Black Marble" Night Lights Data certification from NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration in December 2020, and a Python Data Structures certification from Coursera in December 2020. Selamawit T. also completed a Remote Sensing for Mangroves in Support of UN Sustainable Development Goals certification from NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration in November 2020 and a Programming for Everyone (Getting Started with Python) certification from Coursera in March 2020.

Currently, Selamawit T. Ghebremicael is pursuing a Master of Science degree in Data Science from Simplilearn Alumni, expected to be completed in 2022.
