Melissa Potter

Melissa Potter has extensive experience in the banking and finance industry. Melissa currently holds the position of Vice President/Mortgage Originator Manager at New Peoples Bank, Inc. since August 2021. Prior to this role, they were the Vice President/Mortgage Loan Originator at the same company from November 2020 to August 2021. Before joining New Peoples Bank, Inc., Melissa worked at First Community Bank as a Mortgage Professional from January 2020 to November 2020. Melissa also held the position of Vice President/Senior Mortgage Loan Officer at Highlands Union Bank from June 2016 to December 2019, and Vice President/Mortgage Loan Officer at CommunityOne Bank from November 2006 to June 2016. Melissa started their career as a Mortgage Loan Officer at High Country Bank in September 2005, and then moved on to become a Branch Manager at American General Finance from April 2001 to September 2005. Additionally, they have previous experience as a Secretary at Avery County Farm Bureau from August 1993 to June 1997.

Melissa Potter has a strong educational background. Melissa started their academic journey by attending Avery County High School from 1991 to 1995, where they obtained their high school diploma. Following their graduation, Melissa pursued higher education and earned an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree from Mayland Community College between 1995 and 1997. Melissa then continued their studies at Appalachian State University from 1997 to 1999 and successfully obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree with a focus on Finance, Banking, Risk and Insurance.

In addition to their formal education, Melissa also obtained a couple of certifications. In 1996, they became a Notary Public through the State of North Carolina, demonstrating their ability to witness and authenticate legal documents. Furthermore, in 2010, Melissa obtained the NMLS certification from the National Mortgage Licensing, which validates their expertise in mortgage lending regulations and practices.
