New_ Public
New_ Public is a community-driven laboratory, building digital spaces that serve the public good. We aim to build a world where everyone gets to participate in flourishing, welcoming, productive digital spaces and communities — spaces where we feel like we belong, where we encounter differences, where we productively address conflicts and build understanding, and where we work together for the benefit of all. Just as public spaces in physical life are a critical part of community cohesion offline, we believe digital public spaces contribute to the cohesive and healthy digital public life our societies need. With our Signals project, we have already made significant progress on the baseline research we need to understand what spaces are actually public-friendly, and through editorial work and a launch Festival in 2021, we’ve started to convene a powerful community of civic technologists, designers, community leaders, and experts. Now we are launching a Community Lab and Incubator to start building models and products that serve as digital public infrastructure. Together with public, philanthropic, and private funding, we are supporting multiple small teams to build prototypes and products for different communities (e.g., parenting faith, local cities, health/wellness, etc.), and catalyzing an ecosystem to support them.
