Sammy Gomez has an extensive work experience spanning several organizations and roles. They began their career in 2008 as a Teacher Assistant at the City School District of New Rochelle. From there, they progressed to various positions at the City of New Rochelle, including Youth Program Associate, Youth Program Coordinator, Program Director for the New Rochelle Youth Court, Senior Program Director, and LGBTQ Community Liaison. In 2018, Sammy became a Board Member for the Westchester County LGTBQ Advisory Board, followed by joining the Westchester County Human Rights Commission as a Board Member in 2021. Additionally, Sammy served as the President of New Rochelle Pride starting from 2019. Their most recent role is Director of Diversity and Inclusion at the City of New Rochelle, which they assumed in May 2022. Sammy also held the position of Social Media Coordinator at New Rochelle Parks & Recreation, where they worked from 2013 to 2022.

Sammy Gomez attended Manhattanville College from 2000 to 2004, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree in International/Global Studies. They also obtained another Bachelor's degree in International Studies during the same period. In December 2022, Sammy obtained a certification in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace from USF Corporate Training and Professional Education.
