NEW VOICES FOR YOUTH (NV) empowers young people from under-represented communities to speak out on issues vital to them and their future, giving them the confidence and knowledge that their perspectives–and their voices –– are important.  

With guidance from an experienced teacher, students learn how to write, direct, edit and screen videos about an issue in their community. Students work in teams to:

* choose an issue

* identify reliable sources for facts and figures

* create and edit a video that tells a story

* exhibit the video online and promote it with social media.

 

Through their participation in the New Voices For Youth Program, students develop skills, including:

* public speaking

* interviewing

* visual story telling

* team building

* video production

 

NEW VOICES FOR YOUTH was founded by the Leagues of Women Voters in Palo Alto and South San Mateo County in 2004. In 2019 New Voices for Youth found a new fiscal sponsor, the Social Good Fund.  New Voices is funded entirely through tax-deductible grants and donations. For more information, see CONTRIBUTE.

 

2019-20 Programs
NV4Youth weekly beginning video classes at Siena Youth Center
Located in the North Fair Oaks Community. Members of the Siena Youth Center can join the SYC/NV4Y video crew. Open to students between the ages 13-19.

The SYC/NV4Y Fall video program begins in September 2019

Boys and Girls Club of the Peninsula
NV4Y conducts twice a week classes at the Boys and Girls Club located in the East Palo Alto Moldaw-Zaffaroni Clubhouse. Open to middle school students. In the Fall of 2019, New Voices started working with high school students at the Boys and Girls Club.
