Principal Tuba at New West Symphony

P Blake Cooper has a diverse and extensive work experience in the music industry. P Blake has served as Principal Tuba for the New West Symphony since 2013. In 2017, they became an Instructor of Tuba at both La Sierra University and Santa Monica College. Prior to that, they worked as a Tuba Instructor at Los Angeles City College in 2016. Additionally, Cooper has held various teaching and conducting roles, such as Orchestra Conductor/Music Director for the Regional Youth Orchestra at The Harmony Project in 2015 and Adjunct Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at California State University, Northridge starting in 2012. P Blake has also accumulated significant freelance experience as a Tuba, Cimbasso, Euphonium, Bass musician. In this capacity, they have worked with prestigious orchestras like the Los Angeles Philharmonic and San Diego Symphony, as well as recording for numerous films, television shows, and artists. Cooper has also served as a Mentor Teacher & Field Supervisor at Bard College at Longy School of Music and as Brass Faculty Head/Wind Ensemble Director at Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA).

P Blake Cooper completed a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Tuba Performance, Music Education, Instrumental Conducting, and Jazz Studies from the University of Southern California from 2010 to 2013. Prior to that, they obtained a Master of Music in Tuba Performance from The University of Texas at Austin from 2007 to 2009. They also hold a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Kentucky from 2002 to 2007, with a focus on Music Education, Tuba Performance, and Jazz Bass.
