Director, Library And Center For The History Of Medicine And Public Health at The New York Academy of Medicine

Paul Theerman has an extensive work experience in the field of library and history of medicine and public health. Paul currently serves as the Director of Library and Center for the History of Medicine and Public Health at The New York Academy of Medicine. Paul started this role in February 2018. Prior to this, they worked as the Associate Director at the same organization since May 2013.

Before joining The New York Academy of Medicine, Paul worked at the National Library of Medicine (NLM) from 1998 to 2013, where they held the position of Head of Images and Archives. Paul also worked at the Smithsonian Institution Archives as an Associate Archivist from 1993 to 1998. Paul's career started at the Joseph Henry Papers, Smithsonian Institution in 1981, where they worked as an Editor until 1993.

Paul Theerman completed their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Chemistry at Washington University in St. Louis from 1972 to 1974. Following this, they pursued their higher education at the University of Chicago, where they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in History from 1974 to 1980.
