NYC Outward Bound Schools transforms schools and changes lives, with a focus on serving students from historically underserved communities. We partner with public schools to help them deliver demanding and engaging academics, and build positive and supportive school cultures, generating significant achievement gains for thousands of NYC students each year. 

Our educational approach and strategies are implemented school-wide in our Network Schools which use the EL Education model, emphasize college access and preparation, and leverage our leadership and wilderness programming. We also broaden our impact by bringing our approach and proven best practices to students and teachers beyond our network through our Adventure & Team Building programs and Select Strategies professional learning services. 

Founded in 1987, NYC Outward Bound Schools was the first independent urban Outward Bound organization in the United States. Over more than 30 years, we have helped to bring out the best in more than 100,000 students, preparing them for success in college, careers, and citizenship.

The Education and Coaching team at NYC Outward Bound Schools is dedicated to implementing and supporting the organization's educational strategies and programs across its network of partner schools. Team members, including Lead Instructors, Crew Coaches, Instructional and Leadership Coaches, Per Diem Facilitators, School Coaches, and Field Instructors, work collaboratively to enhance social, emotional, and academic development. Their roles involve delivering professional development, mentoring educators, facilitating leadership and wilderness programs, and implementing best teaching practices to foster a positive and engaging school culture, ultimately driving significant achievement gains for students.
