Andrew S. Gounardes

Andrew S. Gounardes serves as a New York State Senator since January 2019, previously holding the role of Counsel to the Borough President of Brooklyn from February 2014 to December 2019, where responsibilities included managing legal issues and representing the Borough President on the New York City Franchise & Concession Review Committee. Gounardes has also been involved in public service as a Democratic Nominee for the New York State Senate in 2012, securing a notable percentage of the vote against a longstanding incumbent, as well as holding various positions in the U.S. Senate and legal roles, including as a judicial intern and legislative aide. Gounardes earned a J.D. from The George Washington University Law School and a BA in Political Science from Hunter College, complemented by coursework at The Wharton School and the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management.
