Job description

The New York Stem Cell Foundation (NYSCF) Research Institute is a rapidly growing and highly successful nonprofit whose mission is to accelerate cures through stem cell research.

We are seeking a Project Assistant to support our Scientific Operations and Production teams, reporting to the Director of Project Management & Scientific Operations, with additional supervision and training from the Senior Director of iPSC Production. You'll play a crucial role in coordinating sample shipments, managing inventory, and supporting iPSC production on our Global Stem Cell Array platform.

You thrive in a production environment and are comfortable performing routine tasks.  You are interested in human biology, particularly stem cells, and the creation of cell models for disease applications.

Project Management and Scientific Operations Support

  • Coordinate Project Team-related sample shipments, including sample handling and preparation of all associated documentation.
  • Prepare sample collection kits and perform sample inventory audits and cleanup.
  • Assist in identifying, developing, and improving best practices for sample collections and sample inventory management.
  • Provide project coordination support on projects and programs, including documenting project plans, progress reports, schedules, and cost tracking.
  • Provide additional support to the Project Management and scientific teams, as assigned.

Production and Banking

  • Support automated cell culture pipelines on The NYSCF Global Stem Cell Array by preparing cell culture media, plates, and aliquot reagents.
  • Log batches of prepared materials using NYSCF’s custom software application suite.
  • Check reagent and supply inventory, restock critical components as necessary, and work with lab operations.
  • Manage and label tubes in liquid nitrogen storage.
  • Develop workflows and implement regular offsite storage, clean-up, and shipment procedures in collaboration with the Project Management team.
  • Assist with other general iPSC production and banking tasks, as assigned.

What we're looking for:

  • BA/BS in Biology, Biotechnology, or a similar field.
  • 0-1+ years of lab experience in a scientific project assistant, administrative, or operational role.
  • Familiarity with mammalian cell culture is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • High proficiency in MS Office Suite (particularly Excel performing complex functions).
  • Experience with project management software or LIMS is a plus.
