Burak Dura

Principal Scientist at NewLimit

Burak Dura has extensive work experience in the field of science and research. Burak is currently working as a Principal Scientist at NewLimit since March 2023. Prior to this, they were a Fellow at Castor Ventures, a private venture fund for MIT alumni and friends of the community, from January 2023 onwards.

Before joining Castor Ventures, Burak worked at Inscripta, Inc. as a Senior Engineer II from March 2021 to February 2023, and as a Senior Engineer I from March 2019 to February 2021. Burak also worked as an NGS Scientist/Engineer at QIAGEN from March 2018 to February 2019.

Burak's earlier experiences include working as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Yale University, specifically in the Laboratory of Prof. Rong Fan. During their time at Yale, they developed a portable single cell RNA-seq platform, a state-of-the-art oligo-nucleotide patterning technology for spatial sequencing, and filed 2 patents. Burak also published 5 papers in leading scientific journals.

Furthermore, Burak worked as a Graduate Student Research Assistant at Massachusetts Institute of Technology from September 2011 to February 2016 and at Stanford University from September 2009 to April 2011.

Burak Dura received their education in several prestigious institutions. Burak obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi / Middle East Technical University in 2009. Following that, they pursued a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University between 2009 and 2011. Burak then attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and completed their PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from 2011 to 2015. During their time at MIT, they also earned a Graduate Education in Medical Sciences (GEMS) Certificate in Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology from 2013 to 2015. Additionally, Burak has obtained several certifications, including Machine Learning Engineering for Production Specialization, Business Foundations Specialization, Deep Learning Specialization, Machine Learning, Entrepreneurship Specialization, Intellectual Property Law Specialization, and Market Research Specialization, all from Coursera.
