Songyan Hou's work experience includes various roles in different companies.

In 2013, Songyan worked as a Research Assistant at UC Davis, where they developed an indoor localization application on the Android platform and studied Java, C++, and Android development techniques. They also analyzed noise interference in sensors and designed a basic model of an inertial navigation system using SIMULINK.

In 2014, Songyan served as a Student Researcher at Zhejiang University. They developed an application in Android system that displayed users' motion trace and visualized six-dimensional motion data. They also designed a unique visualization method using cubes to represent real-time motion data.

In 2015, Songyan participated in the ASES 2015 Global Summit as a Delegate. They attended entrepreneurship-related seminars, workshops, and panel discussions and worked in a team for a pitch competition, where they generated the idea for a smart plant care device.

Songyan joined VMware in 2015 as an Intern in the Suite Interface Engineering Team.

Starting in 2016, Songyan began working for Uber. They started as a Software Engineer I and moved on to become a Software Engineer II. Eventually, they became a Senior Software Engineer, holding this position until 2020.

Currently, Songyan is working at NewsBreak as a Senior Software Engineer, a position they have held since August 2020.

Songyan Hou earned a Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering from Zhejiang University, where they studied from 2010 to 2014. They also participated in an exchange program at UCLA in 2011, focusing on American Culture. Subsequently, Hou pursued a Master's degree in Computer Engineering at Columbia University from 2014 to 2015. Apart from their formal education, Hou obtained a certification in Preventing Workplace Harassment from Emtrain, though the specific month and year of certification completion are not provided.
