Walter Peters has a diverse range of work experience. Walter has held various roles at companies such as Newsela, Pearson, Uncommon Schools, Teach For America, District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS), and other organizations. Walter's most recent role was as the Senior Director of Product Management at Newsela, where they were responsible for transforming district and school administrators into enthusiastic users through engaging product experiences. Prior to that, they served as the Senior Director of Product Portfolio Management at Newsela, where they drove the strategic management of the Social Studies offering and successfully launched the state add-on product line. Before their time at Newsela, Walter worked as the Director of Solution Architecting, Senior Business Manager, Curriculm Alignment Team Lead at Newsela. Walter also has experience in finance and project management from their time at Pearson. Walter began their career in education as a Lead Teacher at Excellence Boys Charter School of Bedford Stuyvesant and subsequently worked at Teach For America as a Director of Institute Technology and a 2012 Corps Member. Walter also had roles at District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS), Chick-fil-A, UNC Clef Hangers, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, U.S. House of Representatives, and Mike Dye Law. Overall, Walter has a strong background in education, product management, and leadership roles, with a focus on creating meaningful and engaging learning experiences for students and educators.

Walter Peters completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Policy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the years 2008 to 2012. Walter then pursued a Master of Education (MEd) in Curriculum and Instruction from George Mason University during 2012 to 2014. Prior to their university studies, Walter attended the McCallie School, a preparatory boarding school, from 2004 to 2008. In addition to their formal education, they obtained two certifications: a Project Management Overview from Pearson in 2016 and a Regular II Teaching License from the District of Columbia Office of the State Superintendent of Education in June 2014.
