Bilal Lafta

Bilal Lafta's work experience begins with their current role as a Software Engineer at Nextdoor, which they started in December 2020. Prior to that, they held the same role at Nextdoor starting in June 2020. Before joining Nextdoor, Bilal worked as a Software Engineer at Apple from September to December 2019, and at Adobe from May to August 2019.

Bilal'sexperience also includes working as an Engaged Scholar and Bonner Community Fellow at The Swearer Center at Brown University from May 2018 to August 2019. During this time, they participated in the Engaged Scholars Program, designing courses of study and action related to community challenges. Bilal was also selected as a Bonner Community Fellow, carrying a leadership role in community-engagement projects.

Bilal worked as a Machine Learning Engineer at Hikma Health from November 2018 to June 2019, creating customized health data systems for refugee patients. Bilal served as a Campus Ambassador for Teach For America from August 2017 to February 2019, representing the organization on campus.

Additionally, Bilal gained experience as a Software Engineer at Johnson & Johnson from May to August 2018. At Brown University, they served as an Excellence@Brown Facilitator from August 2017 to August 2018, a Residential Peer Leader from August 2017 to May 2018, and a Residential Assistant from May to August 2017.

Prior to that, Bilal worked as a Data Analyst at the Rhode Island Office of Innovation from June to August 2017, where they contributed to initiatives such as the comprehensive statewide Computer Science initiative. Bilal'swork involved managing and organizing data, building and operating websites, and monitoring progress.

Bilal's earliest work experience includes serving as a Scientific Analyst Intern at Vertex Pharmaceuticals in July and August 2016.

Bilal Lafta has a well-rounded education history. Bilal obtained their Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from Brown University, which they pursued from 2016 to 2020. Following this, in 2020, they enrolled in the Virtual Venture in Management program at Harvard Business School.

Prior to their university studies, Bilal participated in various educational experiences. In 2015, they attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for the MIT Online Science, Technology, and Engineering Community (MOSTEC) program. Additionally, in 2014, they took a Neurobiology S-50 course at Harvard University through the Harvard Summer School.

Showing a diverse range of interests, Bilal engaged in outdoor leadership education at the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) in 2017.
