Staff Software Engineer at Nextdoor

Kristy Duong started their work experience as an Administrative Intern at the City of Rosemead in 2013. Kristy updated the city's public works website, created flyers and presentations, and assisted with staff reports.

In 2014, Kristy became the Editor-in-Chief of The Matador, San Gabriel High School's student newspaper. Kristy oversaw the production of the monthly publication, advised the staff, and ensured deadlines were met. The Matador won several awards during their time, including first place in a newspaper competition and the Courage in Journalism award.

From 2017 to 2018, Kristy worked as a Full Stack Web Developer at the Stanford Center for the Study of Language and Information. Kristy was involved in migrating a project's assignment grading and management platform to updated Java backend services and a modern frontend. Kristy implemented and migrated various services using the Jersey-Jackson framework and Hibernate entities.

During the same period, they also served as the President and Choreographer of the Common Origins Urban Dance Team. Kristy organized the largest dance showcase of the quarter and managed a team of 40 people.

In 2017, Kristy became a Research Assistant at the Stanford Computational Journalism Lab and conducted research until early 2018.

In 2018, they worked as a Researcher at The University of Tokyo for two months.

Before joining Nextdoor in 2019, Kristy worked at Hoodline where they began as a Software Engineer Intern in April 2019. Kristy then progressed to a full-time Software Engineer role before transitioning to Nextdoor.

Kristy Duong completed their Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from Stanford University from 2015 to 2019. Prior to attending Stanford, they attended San Gabriel High School from 2011 to 2015. In 2014, Kristy also briefly studied at Caltech, although no specific degree or field of study was mentioned. Additionally, they obtained a certification in Android and Kotlin Essentials from Big Nerd Ranch in June 2020.
