Leigh Shapiro

Leigh Shapiro has a diverse range of work experience. Leigh is currently working as a Product Manager, Engagement at Nextdoor since November 2021. Prior to that, from January 2018 to October 2021, they served as the Head of Product at Shadow.

Leigh's experience also includes working for the City of New York. From October 2016 to January 2018, they held the position of Executive Director, Sector-based Workforce Development Training at the Department of Small Business Services. In this role, they managed the implementation and scaling of workforce development programs, secured contracts, and supported external communications. Before that, from July 2015 to October 2016, they worked as the Director of Implementation for the NYC Tech Talent Pipeline, where they launched training programs and facilitated the connection of participants to quality jobs. Additionally, from January 2014 to July 2015, they served as a Special Assistant to the Mayor's Chief of Staff.

Leigh also has political campaign experience. From September 2013 to January 2014, they worked as a Finance Assistant for Bill de Blasio's Mayoral Campaign/Transition. Furthermore, they have experience in organizing and teaching. From August 2009 to August 2013, they worked as a Lead Organizer for AFT, and from July 2012 to July 2013, they served as a Teaching Fellow at the Organizing Institute for AFL CIO.

Earlier in their career, Leigh worked as an Economic Policy Research Fellow at Georgia State University in 2008. Leigh also served as an Editorial Board Member for The Independent Florida Alligator from November 2006 to April 2008. In 2007, they worked as a Neuroscience Research Fellow at NYU School of Medicine, Sackler Institute of Graduate Biomedical Sciences.

Leigh Shapiro completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, Education Policy, and Math at the University of Florida from 2005 to 2009. In 2006, they also briefly studied Dutch and EU politics at Utrecht University.
