Marcel van Vliet has been working in the financial industry since 1998. marcel began their career at MeesPierson as a Corporate Actions Specialist, where they were responsible for settling all Corporate Actions, processing physical securities to giraal, and dividend arbitrage. In 2002, they joined Fortis Bank as a Senior Corporate Actions Specialist SBL and a Trainee, where they were responsible for settling Corporate Actions over all outstanding Securities Lending trades, reconciling cash and securities, and acting as a UK Crest Specialist. In 2003, they were promoted to Senior Business Controller at Fortis Bank, where they were responsible for ensuring a correct securities and cash reconciliation for all departments, setting up new reconciliation funds, and creating a new and more efficient Reporting Tool. In 2008, Marcel joined European Central Counterparty N.V. as a Senior Specialist Operations. In 2018, they became a Testmanager Projecten at Zelfstandige. Most recently, in 2021, Marcel joined nextmarkets AG as a Customer Service Specialist NL.

Marcel van Vliet attended Comenius College from 1992 to 1996.
