Bhawana Shrestha, Ph.D. has a diverse work experience spanning various research and academic roles. Bhawana currently works at NextVivo as a Scientist, starting in May 2022. Prior to that, they were a Scientist I at BioAgilytix from October 2021 to April 2022.
From 2016 to 2021, Bhawana worked at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Bhawana started as a Postdoctoral Researcher, where they focused on engineering multivalent antibodies for therapeutics related to HIV, gonorrhea, and contraception. Bhawana also worked as a Graduate Research Student, developing a novel antibody-engineering platform to enhance the potency of antibodies and engineering anti-sperm antibodies for non-hormonal contraception. Additionally, they investigated the immune response to the ZIKA virus and the role of regulatory B cells in pancreatic tumorigenesis.
Earlier in their career, Bhawana worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at Claflin University from September 2014 to May 2016. Bhawana also served as a Peer Tutor at Student Support Service Ltd and the Academic Success Center during the same period.
In 2015, Bhawana gained experience as a Summer Scholar at Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR). Bhawana was also a Research Assistant at Claflin University from February 2013 to May 2014.
Bhawana Shrestha, Ph.D. completed their education in a chronological order. Bhawana first pursued a Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry from Claflin University, which they successfully completed between the years 2012 and 2016. Building upon this foundation, they then pursued further education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where they completed their Doctor of Philosophy - Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology between 2016 and 2021.
