HSCP Lead Pharmacist at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde

Louisa Burns has extensive experience in the field of pharmacy. Louisa started their career as a Pre-registration Pharmacist at Lloydspharmacy in 2012 and then worked as a Rotational Pharmacist at NHS Ayrshire and Arran from 2013 to 2014. During this time, they gained experience in various specialties and provided clinical cover to different wards.

In 2014, Louisa joined NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde as a Clinical Pharmacist in mental health and rotational pharmacist across NHSGGC. Louisa worked in an acute adult mental health ward and the west of Scotland perinatal unit, actively participating in patient care and treatment planning.

From 2015 to 2016, Louisa served as a Pharmacy Manager at Gallagher healthcare, followed by their role as a Specialist Clinical Pharmacist in Mental Health at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde from 2016 to 2018.

Louisa then transitioned to the role of General Practice Clinical Pharmacist at NHS Ayrshire & Arran from 2017 to 2018. In this position, they gained experience in service development, managing change, and providing mentorship to a team of pharmacists. Louisa also served as a COVID vaccinator from 2021 to 2022 and as a Principal Pharmacist Pharmacotherapy from 2022 to 2023.

Currently, Louisa is working as an Independent prescribing tutor at Robert Gordon University, where they support students undertaking their independent prescribing qualification through teaching and online learning support.

Furthermore, Louisa will be starting a new role as an HSCP Lead Pharmacist at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde in 2023.

Louisa Burns completed their education history as follows:

- From 2016 to 2018, they attended Robert Gordon University and obtained an MSc in Clinical Pharmacy Practice.

- In 2016 and 2017, they also studied at Robert Gordon University, where they completed a course in Independent Prescribing and obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy Practice.

- Prior to that, from 2008 to 2012, they attended the University of Strathclyde and received a Master of Pharmacy (Mpharm) degree, specializing in Pharmacy.

In addition to their formal education, Louisa Burns has obtained several certifications from NHS Education for Scotland. These include Advanced Leadership, obtained in 2021; Promoting Effective Immunisation Practice, obtained in 2020; and Facilitating Experiential Learning and Facilitation Skills and Facilitation of Adult Learning, both obtained in 2019.
