Head Of Department (1111 Forskningssjef) at NIBIO

Carl Gunnar Fosssdal has extensive work experience in the field of research and bioeconomy. Carl Gunnar started their career as a Forsker/Scientist at the Norwegian Forest and Landscape Institute in 2000, where they conducted studies on genetic resistance to pests and climate adaptation. From 2006 to 2015, they worked as a Seniorforsker (Research Professor) at the same institute, focusing on genomics, transcriptome, and epigenetic studies related to fungal degradation of wood. Carl Gunnar also studied enzymes involved in lignocellulose breakdown for potential biofuel production.

In 2014, Fosssdal briefly served as the Styrets leder/non-executive chairman at foos norway as. Then, in 2015, they joined the NIBIO Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research as a Seniorforsker (Research Professor) and later became the Head of Department in 2016.

Additionally, Fosssdal gained international experience as a Visiting Research Scientist at The University of British Columbia, focusing on genomics and transcriptome studies using DNA microarrays. Carl Gunnar also worked as a Forsker (short-time) at the University of Tromsø, studying climate adaptation in spruce trees.

Overall, Fosssdal's career has been focused on research and expertise in bioeconomy, genetic resistance, fungal degradation, and climate adaptation in trees.

Carl Gunnar Fosssdal has a diverse education history in the field of biotechnology and natural sciences. Carl Gunnar began their education journey in 1986 at San Jacinto College, where they took summer courses in natural sciences. Later that year, they transferred to the University of Houston for pre-medicine/pre-medical studies, but ultimately transferred again to the University of Oslo, Norway.

From 1987 to 1991, Fosssdal studied at the University of Oslo and obtained a Cand. Mag. degree in Natural Sciences with a focus on chemistry. Following this, they pursued further education at the University of Oslo from 1990 to 1991, completing a Cand. Scient. (Master's) degree in biotechnology.

Fosssdal continued their academic journey by enrolling at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (UMB) (NLH) from 1995 to 1999, where they achieved a Dr. Scient. degree in biotechnology.

Overall, Carl Gunnar Fosssdal's education encompasses a range of degrees and fields of study, highlighting their commitment to advancing their knowledge and expertise in biotechnology and natural sciences.
