Shelemia Nyamuryekung'e

Shelemia Nyamuryekung'e has a diverse range of experience in the field of precision livestock farming and animal monitoring. From 2015 to 2020, they worked as a Research Assistant at New Mexico State University, focusing on studying grazing behavior, mother-offspring interactions, heat tolerance, and the use of drones for animal monitoring in extensive cattle ranching systems across New Mexico, USA, and Chihuahua, Mexico. Shelemia reported their findings through presentations and publications in various peer-reviewed journals and conferences. Shelemia also mentored five undergraduate students during their tenure.

Starting in 2020, they became a Postdoctoral Researcher at New Mexico State University, where they worked on a project testing a sensor-based LoRaWAN precision ranching system on five cattle ranches in the western United States. Shelemia'sresponsibilities included the deployment, retrieval, storage, and analysis of data collected by sensors fitted on cattle and ranch infrastructure. Shelemia also managed and organized numerous datasets resulting from the project and supervised graduate students.

In 2022, they took on the role of Adjunct Faculty at New Mexico State University, which they held until 2023. This year, they will begin working as a Research Scientist in Precision Livestock Farming at the NIBIO Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research.

Shelemia Nyamuryekung'e began their education at Arkansas State University, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Sciences and Agricultural Business, with a double major. Shelemia attended from 2010 to 2014.

Shelemia then pursued their Master's degree in Range Science and Management at New Mexico State University from 2015 to 2017. After completing their Master's, they continued their education at the same university and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Range Science with a concentration in Ruminant Nutrition and GIS, with a minor in Applied Statistics. Shelemia completed their PhD from 2017 to 2020.

In addition to their academic achievements, Shelemia Nyamuryekung'e has obtained several certifications. In February 2015, they received the "Institutional Official: Animal Care and Use" certification from the CITI Program. Shelemia further obtained certifications in "Investigators, Staff and Students" in February 2021, "Animal Biosafety" in August 2021, and "Working with Cattle in Agricultural Research Settings" in July 2022, all from the CITI Program.
