Trine Eggen has extensive work experience, primarily in the field of scientific research. Trine started their career in 1987 as a Research Assistant at the Institute for Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Trondheim. Trine then worked as a Technical Assistant at the Institute for Clinical Chemistry, also at the University of Trondheim, in 1988. In the same year, they also worked as a Consultant at the Norwegian Steel Plant in Mo i Rana.
In 1989, Trine became an Environmental Consultant at Terrateam Norsk Miljøteknologisk Senter, where they later served as the General Manager (interim) from 1989 to 1990. From 1993 to 2017, they worked at the NIBIO Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research as a Senior Scientist. During this time, they also took on the role of Head of Department for Bioresources and Recycling Technology from 2017 onwards.
Trine has also been involved with the Norwegian Scientific Committee for Food and Environment (VKM). Trine was a Member of the Panel on Contaminants from 2007 to 2010 and a Member of the Panel on Animal Feed from 2014.
Additionally, Trine served as a Member of the Board at Jordforsk from 1997 to 2000.

Trine Eggen has an extensive education history in the field of environmental engineering and biology. Trine started their academic journey by earning a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Environmental Engineering Technology/Environmental Technology from the University of Washington in the United States, which they completed from 1990 to 1993. Following this, they pursued their passion for bioremediation of hard degradation organic pollutants and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (UMB) in 2000. Their doctoral research focused on this specific area of study.
In the earlier years of their education, Trine Eggen also achieved a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Zoophysiology/toxicity. Trine completed this degree from the Institute for Biology/Institute for Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Trondheim, spanning from 1982 to 1988.
