Dr. Sebastian von der Ecken

Dr. Sebastian von der Ecken has extensive work experience in mechanical engineering, microfluidics design, and research. Dr. Sebastian currently holds the position of Staff Engineer in Mechanical Engineering at Nicoya Lifesciences Inc., where they are responsible for designing new products, managing workflows, and designing highly complex and precise injection molded parts. Prior to this, they worked as a Senior Engineer in Microfluidics at the same company, where they focused on CAD design, advancement and development of various parts, jigs, production methods, and tools for research and development, production, and sale.

Before joining Nicoya Lifesciences Inc., Dr. von der Ecken worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto from 2017 to 2021. During their time there, they conducted research related to their field of expertise. Dr. Sebastian also gained research experience as a Research Fellow at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) from 2013 to 2017.

Additionally, Dr. von der Ecken completed a Diploma Thesis at Bartels Mikrotechnik in 2012 and an Internship in Engineering at ELSOMA GmbH in the same year. These experiences further enriched their knowledge and skills in the engineering field.

Dr. Sebastian von der Ecken completed their education at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). From 2007 to 2013, they studied Maschinenbau and obtained a degree in Diplom-Ingenieur. Dr. Sebastian then pursued further studies and from 2013 to 2017, they attained a Doktor der Ingenieurwissenschaften (Dr.-Ing.) in an unspecified field. In addition to their academic achievements, they also hold additional certifications as a Diplomingenieur (Dipl.-Ing.) and a Snowboard Lehrer.
