Guido Leurs is an experienced marine biologist specializing in elasmobranch ecology and conservation. Currently serving as a PhD candidate at both NIOZ Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research and the University of Groningen, Guido Leurs studies the ecology of elasmobranch fishes. As a lead researcher at Oceaware since August 2012, projects focus on juvenile silky sharks utilizing the Saba Bank, in collaboration with various organizations. Additionally, Guido Leurs has consulted for companies and NGOs on marine and elasmobranch ecology and founded the Oceaware Project to raise global ocean awareness. Previous experience includes conducting expeditions in West Africa for WWF Netherlands, studying shark distributions around Saba, and engaging in various marine research projects during internships and freelance work. Guido Leurs holds a Bachelor of Science in Applied Biology from HAS green academy and furthered education at Wageningen University & Research.
