Laura Villanueva

Laura Villanueva currently serves as a Professor of Marine Microbiology at the Faculty of Science, Utrecht University, since November 2023. From October 2009, Laura has been the Head of the Scientific Department and a Senior Research Scientist at NIOZ Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research, focusing on microbial ecology, genomics, and lipidomics of marine microorganisms. Previous roles include Associate Professor at Utrecht University from July 2020 to October 2023 and a Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard University and the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where Laura conducted research on molecular evolution and environmental microbiology. Laura's academic journey began with a BS in Microbiology from Universitat de Barcelona, followed by extensive research internships at various esteemed institutions.
