SVP, Chief Communications Officer at NiSource

Christopher Garland is currently the SVP, Chief Communications Officer at NiSource. Prior to this, they were the President of Garland Public Affairs LLC from January 2018 to April 2020. For more than 22 years, Christopher Garland has been helping companies build and defend their reputation in the market place. Chris's expertise includes issues and crisis management, litigation communications, transactional PR support, corporate and executive visibility, product communications, product launches and product recalls.

From October 2017 to August 2018, Christopher Garland was the Vice President Business Communications at Cargill. In this role, they were responsible for setting the communications vision for Cargill and creating an integrated stakeholder management strategy with the Enterprise and Regional Communications Leads on key topics such as public policy, thought leadership and corporate responsibility, and financial performance. This work included crisis management, anticipating emerging issues and developing a “pre-active” practice.

Prior to Cargill, Christopher Garland was the Vice President, Global Communications for the Cardiac and Vascular Businesses at Medtronic from March 2008 to August 2017.

Chris Garland attended Rider University and majored in journalism and public relations. Chris also attended Holy Cross High School. Chris is a National Diversity Council Certified Diversity Professional.

Chris Garland reports to Lloyd M. Yates, CEO. They are on a team with Melanie Berman - SVP, CHRO, Kelly Carmichael - VP, Environmental, and Chuck Shafer - VP, Health, Safety & Environmental Execution.
