John Michalak, PE, ENV SP has a diverse work experience that spans several decades. John began their career as an Assistant Civil Engineer at the Town of Shrewsbury Engineering Department in 1993, providing technical support to various town boards and departments. In 1994, they joined Fay Spofford & Thorndike as a Senior Principal Engineer, where they worked for over 20 years. During this time, they gained expertise in engineering and project management. Since 2015, John has been a key member of Nitsch Engineering, where they have held roles such as Senior Project Manager, Deputy Director of Transportation, and currently serves as Vice President & Director of Transportation Engineering. In their current position, they are responsible for managing transportation projects, overseeing staff, and leading marketing and business development efforts. John has extensive experience in roadway and infrastructure projects for both public and private sectors. Their notable projects include safety improvements, roadway reconstruction, rail trail design, and signal design, among others. John Michalak has proven himself as a skilled and experienced engineer throughout their career.
John Michalak, PE, ENV SP obtained their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. John studied at the university from 1988 to 1993. In addition to their degree, John Michalak also holds a certification as an Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP), which they obtained in April 2016 from the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure.
