Graeme Smart is a Principal Scientist for Natural Hazards and Hydrodynamics at NIWA, where responsibilities include managing the RiskScape initiative, leading the Hydrodynamics Group, and conducting research in river mechanics, flood hazard modeling, and tsunami risk evaluation. Additionally, Graeme Smart advises on coastal inundation forecasting as a member of the United Nations WMO INFCOM Joint Expert Team and the Open Panel Commission for Hydrology. Consulting for River Advice since 1990, Graeme Smart holds a PhD in hydrology from the University of Canterbury.
