Jessica Sportelli

Marine Bioacoustic Scientist at NMMF

Jessica Sportelli has a diverse range of work experience in the field of marine mammal research and conservation. Jessica started their career as a Contracted Biologist at Moorpark College: The Butterfly Project in 2014, where they focused on rearing endangered butterfly species and took on leadership roles in fieldwork and project management. In 2018, Jessica became a Masters Candidate at Scripps Institution of Oceanography and successfully defended their Master's thesis on killer whale pulsing calls in the Eastern Canadian Arctic. Jessica then transitioned to the National Marine Mammal Foundation in 2019, first as a Conservation Health Data Manager and later as a Research Associate. In 2019, they also worked as a Field Researcher for Oceans North Canada. Jessica's work experience showcases their expertise in marine mammal research, project management, and fieldwork.

Jessica Sportelli completed a Master's degree in Marine Biology and Biological Oceanography at UC San Diego from 2018 to 2019. Prior to that, they obtained their Bachelor's degree in Marine Biology from UC San Diego, which they completed from 2016 to 2018.
