Theis Skafte, PhD

Principal Scientist & Development Lead at Noon Energy

Theis Skafte, PhD has had a diverse range of work experiences in the field of sustainable energy research and development. Theis started their career as a Summerstudent at Risø National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy in 2012, followed by a brief position as a Research Assistant at the same institution in 2013. Theis then joined Topsoe Fuel Cell A/S as a Research Engineer, where they established a large database of degradation mechanisms for high-temperature fuel cells. Theis also worked as an Industrial Ph.D. Candidate at both Topsoe Fuel Cell A/S and its parent company, Haldor Topsoe A/S, focusing on heterogeneous catalysis and material surface science. In 2014, Theis began a Postdoctoral Researcher position at DTU - Technical University of Denmark, where they worked on novel applications for solid oxide cell technology. Theis continued their postdoctoral research at Berkeley Lab in 2020, investigating re-activation mechanisms for solid oxide cells. Currently, Theis holds the role of Principal Scientist & Development Lead at Noon Energy, working towards a fully-renewable future with low-cost compact long-duration energy storage inspired by nature.

Theis Skafte, PhD, has an extensive education history in the field of electrochemistry, sustainable energy, fuel cells, hydrogen, and physics. Theis completed their Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in physics at the University of Copenhagen from 2007 to 2011. Theis then pursued a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in engineering with a specialization in sustainable energy, fuel cells, and hydrogen at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) from 2012 to 2013. Theis furthered their studies at DTU and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in electrochemistry from 2014 to 2017. Theis also had the opportunity to enhance their research skills as a Visiting Student Researcher at Stanford University in 2016.

In addition to their academic qualifications, Theis Skafte has obtained a certification in Introduction to Data Science from LinkedIn in May 2020.
