Sonia Rocha

Sonia Rocha has significant work experience, starting in 1994 as a Visiting Scholar at the Environmental Law Institute. Sonia then worked as a Volunteer at the Institute of Brazilian Issues - George Washington University in 1995. In that same year, they also worked as an Attorney at Cameron & Hornbostel. From 1996 to 1998, they were an Attorney at Tavares Guerreiro Advogados. Rocha then joined Dewey & LeBoeuf as an Associate in 1998, where they remained until 2011.

In 2011, Rocha joined the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) as an Attorney. Sonia held various roles in the company, including Associate General Counsel and Director of Enforcement from 2013 to 2015, Acting General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, Vice President of Enforcement from 2017 to 2018, Deputy General Counsel, Vice President of Enforcement from 2015 to 2019, and currently serves as the Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary.

Sonia Rocha has an extensive education history in the field of law. Sonia obtained their Juris Doctor (JD) degree from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, where they studied from 1988 to 1992. Following their JD, they pursued further specialization in International Environmental Law, completing a Master of Laws (LLM) degree at American University Washington College of Law in 1994.
